In this laboratory-based workshop you will get a chance to look at your own cells under the microscope, extract and bottle your own DNA and take it home!
Please note, this course will take place at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre and will be taught by Jayne Quoiani.
No previous knowledge or laboratory experience required.
This workshop will allow you the chance to use the state-of-the-art laboratory at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre (EBSOC). You will examine your own cheek cells under a microscope, before going on to isolate your own DNA.
The EBSOC team will guide you through activities designed to help you gain an understanding of the genetics behind your own inherited characteristics. The session will close with a discussion involving researchers from The Roslin Institute. This is a laboratory based, practical workshop.
On completion of this course the student will be able to use a light microscope, prepare slides and safely use laboratory equipment to extract and precipitate DNA.
