Course Summary

In this short workshop, students will learn how to print their own mono and relief prints using mixed media techniques and a press in the studio. This taster class will introduce and encourage you to produce images as prints using a variety of drawing and printmaking techniques.

No previous experience required.

Special Information

Essential materials you will need to bring to the first class:

· An apron or old shirt

Materials and equipment provided for students as part of the course and included in course fee:

· Printing press, printing inks, rollers, monoprint sheet, linocutting tools.

Materials and equipment available for purchase during the course: 

· Lino TBC 

Essentials materials and equipment students will need to provide themselves:

· Sketchbook or visual reference material

Additional recommended materials and equipment students can provide: · Collage papers, colour papers

· Black permanent marker

 

 

Content of Course

The tutor will give a brief introduction to and demonstration of monoprinting techniques. The students will then be encouraged to produce monoprints.

The tutor will give a brief introduction to relief printmaking. They will give a demonstration of cutting techniques and encourage the student to create relief prints.

The students will be shown how to ink their relief block and print their image using a press.

Teaching method(s)

This course will be based and delivered in specialist art and design studios or workshops and will typically include a range of practical exercises, introductions to techniques, processes and concepts, and set projects which lead to more focused and personal exploration. Students’ progress will be monitored and supported by the tutor who will suggest follow up reading, research and practice to undertake each week to support their studies. Teaching will include practical demonstrations, one to one tuition, group discussions and critiques.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • create printed images very quickly by using the monoprinting technique;
  • cut and print a small relief image using a press;
  • create a variety of marks by using a selection of cutting tools to produce a print.
