Ten Centuries of Classical Music

No previous knowledge of the subject is assumed.

Content of Course

This session will offer a whistle-stop tour of Western classical music, from Gregorian chant, to minimalism, via the baroque, romanticism and impressionism. Expect to hear a taste of some well-known favourite pieces as well as discovering some less well-known composers.

Teaching method(s)

Illustrated lecture and group discussion.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this taster course, students should be able to:

Demonstrate an awareness of the stylistic and instrumental developments of Western classical music.
