This course aims to revise grammar and improve the speaking and listening skills of students with a post-beginners knowledge of Japanese. You will have the opportunity to increase their fluency while revising grammatical structures of the language and expanding your vocabulary knowledge. The course places great emphasis on social and cultural aspects of life in Japan.
Japanese Beginners 6 or equivalent. Students should be familiar with the grammar structures like –te form and –nai form of verbs.
Cultural aspects of life in Japan, eg. Annual events in Japan.
Travelling around Japan, eg. Trains and museums.
Expressing preference and desire.
Revision of –te form, -nai form of verbs and particles.
The emphasis in this course is on speaking and listening. The lessons will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.
The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context.
In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote some time outwith classes to revision and homework.
By the end of the course students should be able to:
Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly;
Read and write simple texts on familiar topics in Hiragana and Katakana;
Describing own preference or desire with simple text.
Handouts will be provided and there is no need to purchase a textbook.
