This course is for someone who wishes to continue to learn Japanese beyond post-beginners. The course will cover all aspects of language learning - speaking, listening, reading, writing, communication and sociocultural knowledge. In order to develop communication skills (especially of using verbs in te-form), students will learn how to make a request not to do certain things, to talk about the states of things (i.e, work, life, knowledge etc.), to state what one likes, is good at, and wants to do. The course will introduce Kanji (Chinese characters) - the third scripts in the Japanese writing system.
Japanese 1.5 or equivalent.
The emphasis in this course is on speaking and listening. The lessons will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.
The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context. Extensive written exercises and reading texts are normally only set as homework.
In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote 1-2 hours outwith classes to revision and homework.
To study this course you will need the course book. Your tutor will advise you on the purchase of the textbook at your first class.
