Pre-requisites for enrolment

Students should have completed Italian 1.2 or otherwise acquired a similar level of proficiency.

Content of Course

• Shopping for clothes,colours and sizes
• Asking and giving information organizing a holiday in Italy, the weather
• Cultural aspects of life in Italy, e.g. holidays and festivals
• Prepositions & pronouns, time expressions, negative sentences, the past tense

Teaching method(s)

The emphasis in this course is on speaking and listening. The lessons  will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.

The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context. More extensive written exercises and reading texts are normally only set as homework.

In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote 1-2 hours outwith classes to revision and homework.

 

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students should be able to:

• Ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
• Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
• Understand very short, simple texts on familiar topics.
