Continuation of the basic stage and by the end of the year students should be able to communicate on familiar and routine matters.

Content of Course

Session 3 will be based mainly on oral practice of all types - prepared topics (students' choice).

Teaching method(s)

The emphasis in this course is on speaking and listening. The lessons will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.

The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context. Extensive written exercises and reading texts are set as homework where appropriate.

In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote some time outwith classes to revision and homework.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal information, education, health);
  • Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;
  • Describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
