Course Summary

This course introduces students to the Adobe InDesign. Whether you are new to InDesign or just needing a refresher, this course will guide you through the various elements and functions such as image manipulations, tools, brushes and working with layers to creating posters, flyers and other publishing materials.

Please be aware that all of our digital courses that employ the use of computers and Adobe software are delivered on Apple Mac computers.

Course Details

Pre-requisites for enrolment

No previous knowledge of the subject is required.

Special Information

Materials you will need to bring for the first session:

  • Note pad,

  • USB / Memory stick or external HD.

In addition to the course fee, students are expected to provide the following list of indicative tools, materials and equipment:

Content of Course

Each session, students will be introduced to various aspects of Adobe InDesign. The sessions will explore a combination of practical exercises and demonstrations, which include:

1. Getting started - Navigating and exploring the InDesign environment, understanding what the software is used for.

2. Explore and develop the skills for designing documents and exporting them as Acrobat PDF files.

3. Explore the use of colours, swatches, transparency and gradients.

4. Explore working with text and graphics, creating vector-based graphics, and the basics of design.

5. Explore combining and integrating other Adobe Creative Suite software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.

Teaching method(s)

This course will be based and delivered in specialist digital learning space with Mac computers and the relevant software and licences. Each week, students’ progress will be monitored and supported by the tutor who will suggest follow up reading, research and practice to undertake each week to support their studies.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge for the principles of the Adobe InDesign software package.

  • Demonstrate an ability to use the key features of the Adobe InDesign software.

  • Demonstrate an ability to apply the skills learnt to a project.
