This course is a continuation from Elementary 1. The emphasis remains on the development of listening and speaking skills. There will also be a summary of some important grammatical devices and structures to help students consolidate what they have learnt so far. New grammatical structures introduced, will include those for comparison, time durations and frequencies. Teachers will give more guidance and assistance to help students in recognising and writing Chinese characters.

Content of Course

  • Vocabulary building and conversation/ short paragraph construction related to topics covered in the textbook;
  • Various structures for comparison;
  • A summary of prepositions introduced;
  • A summary of adverbs introduced;
  • Expressions regarding time duration;
  • Expressions regarding frequency of actions

Teaching method(s)

The course is tutorial based with a combination of joint class activities and group work. Supplementary material is prepared by the teacher. To benefit fully from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, students are strongly encouraged to spend at least 1-2 hours to revise each class.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Talk about weathers and seasons;
  • Talk about one’s hometown and home;
  • Correctly use prepositions and adverbs learnt so far in utterance and writing;
  • Correctly express time in terms of durations and frequencies
