This Post Beginners course for students with a very basic knowledge of Spanish aims to improve their knowledge of the language using a communicative approach that combines input and interaction.
The course consists of ten hours - four classes of two and a half hours – and it will give the students the opportunity to consolidate their basic knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary and develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Students should have completed Spanish Beginners 1 or Beginning Spanish 1 or otherwise acquired a similar level of proficiency. More specifically students should have some knowledge of basic vocabulary and structures like the Spanish alphabet, genders and articles, the present tense.
Each class will consist of activities that develop speaking and listening as well as vocabulary and grammar needed to communicate.
* Tiempo libre: Hobbies, sports, what to do/you like to do in your free time.
* ¿Qué hora es?: days of the week, months of the year, asking for the time.
* "Hacer puente": Traditional bank holidays in Spanish speaking countries.
* ¿Qué tiempo hace? What’s the weather like...? The weather forecast, the weather in Spanish speaking countries
* "Todos los días...": Daily life and daily routine.
The emphasis in this course is speaking and listening. The lessons will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.
The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context.
In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, students will need to devote some time outwith classes to revision and homework.
On completion of this course, students will be able to:
* understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type;
* introduce themselves and others, and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they knows and things they have;
* interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Handouts will be provided and there is no need to purchase a textbook.
