Follow the Line: Collaborative Drawing

Course Summary

Using a series of pre-existing images, objects and drawings as starting points, participants will collaborate to create a series of improvised drawings which they contrive to connect as one large drawn installation made using a range of simple approaches and strategies.

Pre-requisites for enrolment

No previous knowledge of the subject is assumed.

Special Information

Materials and equipment provided for students as part of the course and included in course fee:

· All drawing materials ,papers will be provided

Content of Course

Participants will be given a range of images and objects, papers and drawing materials to work with.

A series of simple drawing methods will be demonstrated.

Each participant will be initially asked to make one drawing in direct response to an object or images using a range of given drawing materials and given techniques.

Pairs of participants are then asked to create a third piece which visually connects their drawings. Two

pairs then become four, linking their drawings into one, fours become eights to create and contrive a complete installed drawing.

With tutor guidance, participants reflect on the completed work

Teaching method(s)

Participants will be directed and lead by the workshop tutor who will demonstrate a range of approach, stage manage the participants and groups and foster a sense of reflective collaboration.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this taster course, students should be able to:

  • Make a series of drawings which respond to given images and objects,
  • Demonstrate they have collaborated with others to contrive and create a unified installation using multiple drawings,

Present, reflect and value drawings they have undertaken.
