Content of Course

  • The alphabet and the Arabic writing system
  • Introducing oneself and exchanging personal information: names, addresses, nationalities
  • Greetings and useful expressions
  • Family, professions
  • Making a statement and asking a question: yes-no questions
  • Feminine vs. masculine, the possessive, the definite articles

Teaching method(s)

The emphasis in this course is on speaking and listening. The lessons  will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.

The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context.

In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote some time outwith classes to revision and homework.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
  • Introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have
  • Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help
