This course aims to improve the speaking and listening skills of students with an intermediate knowledge of Arabic. You will have the opportunity to increase your fluency while revising grammatical structures of the language and expanding your vocabulary knowledge. The course places great emphasis on social and cultural aspects of life in the Middle East. This course will run for four weeks with one class of 2.5 hours per week and the course materials are included.
Students should be familiar with grammar structures like the past, present and future tenses.
Cultural aspects of life in the Middle East, e.g. museums and tourist organisations
Traveling around the Middle East, regional differences
A hoilday with a difference: new ways to spend a holiday
Revision of past, present and future tenses, prepositions, pronouns and conjunctions
The emphasis in this course is on speaking and listening. The lessons will focus on language that is required for communicating in real situations.
The lessons will include whole class activities and pair or small group work, role-play, watching videos and listening to CDs. Grammar is introduced in context.
In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote some time outwith classes to revision and homework.
By the end of the course students should be able to:
Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters.
Produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interested.
Describe experiences and events, hopes and amibitions and brielfly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Handouts will be provided and there is no need to purchase a textbook.
